3 Twisted Pixel Stories

Over the past couple of days there have been a couple of news stories about Twisted Pixel, the awesome developers of The Maw, ‘Splosion Man, Comic Jumper and the recently announced Ms. ‘Splosion Man. Since I didn’t feel like writing three seperate articles, I am going to compile them all here, in one mega-article.

Capcom Rips Off ‘Splosion Man, Twisted Pixel Doesn’t Take Action

On January 6th Capcom Mobile (yes, that’s right, fucking Capcom) released a game for the iPhone called MaXplosion. In the game, you play as a weird little red dude (possibly named MaXplosion, I don’t really know) who runs through an underground science lab, exploding to jump and attack the scientists trying to stop him from escaping. There are also some canisters that when you explode near them the launch you into the air and the camera pulls back to show you getting smaller as you fly through the air.

Now for those of you who own an Xbox, you have probably heard of the game ‘Splosion Man. The premise is essentially the exact same as MaXplosion, only they did it first. Despite Capcom’s blatant ripoff of their game, Twisted Pixel will not be taking legal action. TP CEO Michael Wilford told Joystiq that “While [he thinks] the similarities are pretty nauseating, [they’re] too small to take on a company like Capcom.” He also says that they “owe [Capcom] for inventing Mega Man.”

But the weird thing is, Wilford said on his Twitter that they originally pitched the idea for ‘Splosion Man to Capcom and they turned them down. Not sure what that says about Capcom’s top men, but I don’t think it’s something good.

Fans Could Get Into a Twisted Pixel Game

Hey, are you guys going to PAX East? Well firstly, fuck you for being able to go. As a broke, Canadian university student I have neither the money nor the time to get down to Boston to attend the thing. Secondly, why not stop by the Twisted Pixel booth in costume for a chance to get into an upcoming TP game.

Fans who go to the Twisted Pixel booth dressed like a character from The Maw, ‘Splosion Man, Comic Jumper or Ms. ‘Splosion Man will all be put on the Twisted Pixel site, but one lucky winner will be put into a yet to be announced TP title. The character will be somewhere in the game, not really specified where. The background of the character will be filled in as needed and the winner will be updated on the status and what the game is. Three runners up will be mentioned in the game’s credits.

Ms. ‘Splosion Man and Unannounced Game Playable at PAX East

A Twisted Pixel representative told Joystiq that Ms. ‘Splosion Man and an unannounced game will be playable at PAX East. No details were given about the second game, except that it will be revealed before PAX East. The game is something that Dan Teasdale, ex-Harmonix senior designer, has been working on, so that might mean something good.

Oh, and Matt “Chainsaw” Chaney will be at the TP booth with his ukulele, so another hardy “fuck you” to anyone going to PAX East.
