Shailene Woodley to be Cast as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 going into pre-production, director Marc Webb and Sony are reported by EW to be in talks with The Descendants star Shailene Woodley for the role of Mary Jane Watson.

In the comics Mary Jane Watson’s first full appearance in 1966 in The Amazing Spider-Man #42, and competed with Gwen Stacey for Peter’s heart. MJ was characterized as a party girl and a socialite. She was previously portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in the Sam Raimi films.

Sony is also reportedly looking to cast the role of Peter Parker’s best friend Harry Osborn, but there is no word on that casting. Rumours are also swelling that the villain for the sequel might be Electro, but nothing has been confirmed.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for a release date of May 2, 2014
