Gravity Falls to End Following Weirdmageddon

You all know this, but this is part of my grieving process so bare with me for being late with this.

Alex Hirsch, creator of Gravity Falls, announced last week on his Tumblr that, following the already aired Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality and the upcoming Weirdmageddon III (which will be one hour long), the show will be ending…

There’s no easy way to say it so I’m just going to say it: Gravity Falls is coming to an end. There are two more episodes left: “Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality” and “Weirdmageddon III” which will be our hour long series finale. After that, Gravity Falls as we know it will be over.

Now, the show isn’t being cancelled or anything. It’s ending. Hirsch went on to say that when he made Gravity Falls it was always intended to take place over the course of one summer and have an actual ending. He’s been saying stuff to that effect for as long as people have been asking him about the show.

He only announced that this would be the ending now because it was the only time he could. Hirsch and the writers decided before the season began that this would be the last, but he wasn’t allowed to say anything about it until now.

While this does kind of suck, it’s also probably best for the show. I mean, where would you go after this? This is basically the only thing left to resolve outside of personal character stuff, which could be wrapped up in Weirdmageddon III. We know who the Author is, we know about the Journals, and we’re right in the middle of Bill’s grand plan. Anything after this would just be disappointing from a story perspective.
