Marvel Announces All-New Marvel NOW! Campaign

Last fall, Marvel Comics tried a relaunch thing by putting big red bars on a bunch of the books that had a stupid pun on them, resetting a bunch of their existing books to issue 1, and launching some new ones as well. It did pretty well for the company. In fact, it did so well that Marvel has decided to try it again.

USA Today is reporting that Marvel will be doing another round of new books and “jumping on” stories for new readers starting December 24th and running through to April. The Avengers will be starting off the new Re-Evolution or whatever the hell the slogan was the first time around with Avengers issue 24.NOW (fuck) and the storyline Rogue Planet. Written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Esad Ribic, the story will follow Captain America and Iron Man as they try to recruit a new team of Avengers to stop a planet that is about to collide with the Earth. Cap will also be fighting off the Kree who are looking for an ancient god-controlling device with some old friends of his in All-New Invaders, written by James Robinson and drawn by Steve Pugh. The Invaders team consists of Cap, Bucky Barnes, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and the original Human Torch (an android built before Johnny Storm was even born). Robinson had the following to say about the team…

They answered America’s call, went to war against the Nazi menace and fought side by side. These guys were brothers-in-arms. As they move into more modern dramas, that link is a link you just can’t undo. That will hopefully be the visceral element of this books’ identity that will set it apart from the Avengers and X-Men.

And finally, a book that doesn’t have Captain America, Inhumans. This book, written by Matt Fraction and drawn by Joe Madiurera, spins off from the events of Infinity, which the Inhumans play a big part in. It tells the tale of what happens when a huge group of people are exposed to a mist, presumably the Terrigen Mist, and become Inhumans. Fraction said that while there is something “alien” about the Inhumans, it’s “the secret kingdom stuff, the weird powers, the mixture of science fiction and pure fantasy that makes up their history” that make them so cool.

With this new NOW! campaign, select issues of already running books will be getting a code in them so new readers can download the first collection of the series to help ease them into the book.

The second Marvel NOW! begins December 24th.
