As a huge fan of the Godzilla series (that terrible American remake is part of it, but in a very small way) I’ve been hopeful yet cautious about this new American remake from Legendary Pictures. The teaser images for the film have looked pretty good, with the original design of Godzilla clearly being respected. The fact that the script is being re-written could be signs of bad writing or a sign that care is being taken with the story (it really is a rich in-depth universe that just happens to center on giant monsters repeatedly destroying cities).
Recent news about who is in talks to star could also be signs of a good adaptation to come. While nothing is being finalized until the new script is finished, Legendary Films has been looking at Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen as possible leads for the movie.
Cranston, of course, needs no introduction as everyone and their mother is watching and recommending Breaking Bad except me (I prefer to wait for hype to fade so that I can watch the show without everyone and their mother spoiling it).
Elizabeth Olsen is not a name from wide release films but has made quite a name for herself in independent film. This role, should she take it, could be the making or breaking of her career. So at least we know she’ll take it seriously.
