After Marvel’s $1.5 billion blockbuster, ABC announced they were getting Avenger’s director, Joss Whedon, to spearhead a television spin-off of the exploits of the super-spy agency of S.H.I.E.LD.
Immediately following the announcement of a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series, there was speculation on how it would fit in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee told IGN that the stories in the series would follow the events of The Avengers, which makes sense; a whole new world opened up to the people of the MCU and you have the S.H.I.E.LD. agents clearing up superhuman threats and what have you.
But, then the announcement that fan favourite Agent Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, would be a major part of the show who SPOILER ALERT died by Loki’s hand in the film. So a lot of people are raising their eyebrows.
Now, news that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders would be reprising her role as Agent Maria Hill in Whedon’s television series. Smulders said…
The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.
Along with this news of her joining the cast of S.H.I.E.L.D. she is supposed to join Avengers castmates in the sequel to Captain America, The Winter Soldier. Smulders revealed she hasn’t yet read a full script for The Winter Soldier, saying…
I’ve seen parts of it, but yeah I don’t know much. This is Marvel! They don’t let you know anything.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot is filming now in Los Angeles. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014.
