Marvel recently announced that Skottie Young, the artist of Marvel’s various Oz series, will be writing a one-shot spinoff of the whole Avengers vs. X-Men thing called A-Babies vs. X-Babies.
In a similar vain to the X-Babies mini-series Young did the art for, the one-shot will have all the major players in the AvX storyline duking it out but as cute little babies.
“Listen, don’t be surprised if this isn’t the AvX event people talk about in 20 years,” says Young, “I’m writing and not drawing this one. With the Oz books, I just go to the table each day and see what kind of wacky world I can build. This is playing with toys that people love but making them super cute and cuddly, except when they’re blasting each other with mutant powers. Baby Magneto will definitely mess some toddlers up. And I think the Baby Hulk will be smashing a few things.”
As Young said, he is not doing the art this time. That responsibility falls to Gurihiru, a Japanese art team who have worked on various Power Pack titles.
“He’s got a great sense of movement and energy. I feel comfortable writing the craziest things with these babies because I know I don’t have to draw it and he does, and I couldn’t be more excited to see him bring it to life.”
A-Babies vs. X-Babies will be available this October.
